91快活林 Olympic Day 2023
All 5,000 pupils across the 91快活林 family of schools took part in a range of events as part of our Olympic Day 2023.
Our Olympic Day events are a unique opportunity for our pupils across our family of schools to compete in a range of sporting activities and learn more about the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. With the support of GB Olympians, our pupils are able to learn about aiming high and working hard to achieve your goals through sport.
Our events began with a torch relay, featuring the 91快活林 Olympic torch, which saw all pupils at each of our seven schools walking or running a mile, together clocking up a total of 5,000 miles - a mile per pupil across the 91快活林. The torch moved from school to school throughout the week beginning June 5th and we were thrilled to be joined at our schools by a number of Olympic athletes:
- Sprinter Anita Neil
- Team GB hockey player and double Olympic gold medallist Shona McCallin MBE
- Rower Caragh McMurtry
- British judo athlete and double world medallist Nekoda Davis
- British Paralympic and gold medallist Laura Sugar
The following week, on Wednesday 14th June, we held our Ability Games, a fun sporting competition for our pupils with additional needs. This event was fully inclusive, enabling pupils to take part in appropriate sporting activities as part of our Olympic Day programme. Joining us for the day was double Paralympic archer and gold medallist Danielle Brown鈥疢BE.
The main event - our Olympic Day - took place at this year at Corby Athletics Stadium on Wednesday 21st June, offering our children and young people the chance to compete at a full-sized athletics track and field. We broadcast live from the stadium (watch below), enabling parents and pupils back at school to watch the events and cheer on their child or classmates, and were joined by Olympic rower Caragh McMurtry and Sky Sports presenter Jamie Weir who was our host for the event.
